Rules for Awards

Purpose:

Aiming at recognizing scientific achievements and encouraging further research contributions to the field of Biomechanics, the Japanese Society of Biomechanics presents Matsui Memorial JSB Award (the most prestigious award of the Society), Best Paper Award, Young Investigator's Award, JSB Special Award to those who made outstanding contributions to the Society and the field of Biomechanics.。

Eligibility:

  1. Matsui Memorial JSB Award shall be granted by the JSB to the best research paper published in the JSB official journal “the Japanese Journal of Biomechanics in Sports and Exercise” within two years prior to the year that the JSB-Biannual Congress is held. The date of publication shall be the date on which the paper is issued, and the first author of the paper must be a member of the JSB.
  2. Best Paper Award shall be granted by the JSB to the best academic publication or the best research paper published in recognized academic journals such as “the Japanese Journal of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences” and “the International Journal of Sport and Health Science” within two years prior to the year that the JSB-Biannual Congress is held. The date of publication shall be the date on which the book or the paper is issued, and the first author of the publication must be a member of the JSB.
  3. Young Investigator's Award shall be granted by the JSB to the best research presented in the JSB-Biannual Congress. The first author must (1) be a member of the JSB, (2) be below the age of 35, and (3) personally present the paper (whether oral or poster) at the Congress.
  4. JSB Special Award shall be granted by the JSB to an individual or a corporation that has made highly-recognized contributions to the research activities of the members, the organization of Biannual Congress, and the administrations of enterprises.

Process:

  1. Award Selection Committee shall be formulated by eight Directors of the Board and the following sequence shall be taken to identify candidates and select the recipients of the Awards. The Chairperson of the Award Selection Committee shall be voted among the eight members of the Committee.
  2. Recipients of the Matsui Memorial JSB Award, the Best Paper Award, the Young Investigator's Award, and the JSB Special Award shall be selected as follows;
    1. Any member of the Society may nominate through any Directors a paper, a book, or the research achievements of an individual for each Award.
    2. Award Selection Committee shall assess all nominated papers, books and achievements of individuals, and select a single work for each Award.
    3. The Board of Directors shall determine the recipients for each Award.
  3. Recipients of the Young Investigator's Award shall be selected as follows;
    1. The Directors shall assess all relevant abstracts and the presentations including Questions-and-Answers, to nominate presenters for the Young Investigator's Award. Presenters shall be nominated for the research on basic biomechanics and applied biomechanics.
    2. Award Selection Committee shall determine the recipients.

The number of Awards:

The Society shall recognize one Matsui Memorial JSB Award, one Best Paper Award, multiple Young Investigator's Awards and one JSB Special Award for every two years.

The Award Recipients:

  1. Matsui Memorial JSB Award and Best Paper Award shall be given to all authors of the award-winning academic manuscript or paper.
  2. Young Investigator's Award shall be given to the presenters of the award-winning presentations.
  3. JSB Special Award shall be given to the individual or the corporate that made the award-winning contributions.
  4. The announcement of the Award recipients shall be made at the Member's Meeting held in conjunction with the JSB-Biannual Congress, and a plaque and prize shall be presented to the recipients.

Others:

The first author of the recipients of the Matsui Memorial JSB Award shall present a special lecture at the JSB-Biannual Congress.
